When it comes to the difference between stainless steel materials, you need to understand the characteristics of each common stainless steel material. 201 stainless steel is the most cost-effective stainless steel material, cheap, but easy to rust; 304 stainless steel is the most common and widely used stainless steel material, not easy to rust, good quality, relatively high price; 316 stainless steel is an import Material, used in some high-end equipment, such as aerospace, food machinery and other fields, the price is high. Let's take a closer look at the differences between these common stainless steel materials.
What is the difference between stainless steel 304 and 201?
In the eyes of many consumers, there is almost no difference between 304 stainless steel and 201 stainless steel, which can hardly be distinguished by the naked eye. Here are some ways to distinguish between 304 and 201.
1. Specifications: Commonly used stainless steel plates are divided into two models, 201 and 304. Actually, the composition is different, and the 304 quality is better, but the price is higher, and the difference is 201. 304 is imported stainless steel plate and 201 is domestic stainless steel plate.
2, 201 composition of 17Cr-4.5Ni-6Mn-N, is a Ni steel grade, 301 steel alternative steel. It is magnetic after cold working and is used in railway vehicles.
3, 304 composition of 18Cr-9Ni, is the most widely used stainless steel, heat-resistant steel. Used in food production equipment, Xitong chemical equipment, nuclear energy, etc.
4, 201 is high in manganese, the surface is very bright with dark bright, manganese is high and easy to rust. 304 contains more chromium, the surface is matte, no rust. The two are put together to compare. The most important thing is the corrosion resistance is different, the corrosion resistance of 201 is very poor, so the price is much cheaper. Because 201 contains low nickel, the price is lower than 304, so the corrosion resistance is not as good as 304.
5, the difference between 201 and 304 is the problem of nickel. And the price of 304 is now more expensive, but at least 304 can guarantee that it will not rust during use. (Experiment with stainless steel potion)
6, stainless steel is not easy to rust because the formation of chromium-rich oxide on the surface of the steel can protect the steel body, 201 material belongs to high manganese stainless steel than 304 hardness, high carbon and low nickel.
7, different composition (mainly from carbon, manganese, nickel, chromium containing several aspects to distinguish between 201 and 304 stainless steel)
Steel No. Carbon (C) Silicon (Si) Manganese (Mn) Phosphorus (P) Sulfur (S) Chromium (Cr) Nickel (Ni) Molybdenum (Mo) Copper (Cu)
AISI(304) ≤0.08 ≤1.00 ≤2.00 ≤0.045 ≤0.03 18-20 8-10
AISI(201) ≤0.15 ≤1.00 5.5-7.5 ≤0.05 ≤0.03 16-18 3.5-5.5
Difference between 304 and 316 stainless steel
The practical naked eye can't see the difference between 304 and 316 stainless steel. Many people see these numbers on the fog. Let's take a look at the difference between stainless steel 304 and 316.
First of all, 316 stainless steel contains Mo, which is better than 304 stainless steel in high temperature environment, so in high temperature environment, engineers generally choose 316 material parts.
Secondly, there are differences between the two brands; 304 stainless steel corresponds to the Chinese brand 0Cr18Ni9; 316 stainless steel corresponds to the Chinese brand 0Cr17Ni12Mo2.
Third, 316 mainly reduces the Cr content and increases the Ni content and increases Mo2% to 3%. Therefore, its corrosion resistance is stronger than 304, suitable for use in chemical, seawater and other environments. Similarly, the cost of 316 is higher than 304. Generally, 316 is used in places where the requirements are relatively high, instead of 304.
Its practical naked eye can not see the difference between stainless steel 304 and 316, there is a more intuitive way to distinguish, using stainless steel syrup for identification, stainless steel syrup use, please click here to view.
304 and 321 stainless steel difference
The main difference between 304 and 321 stainless steel is that 304 does not contain Ti, and 321 contains Ti. Ti can prevent stainless steel sensitization. Generally speaking, it is to improve the high temperature service life of stainless steel. That is to say, in high temperature environment, 321 stainless steel plate is more than 304 stainless steel plate. Suitable for. Both 304 and 321 are austenitic stainless steels, and their appearance and physical properties are very similar, with only a slight difference in chemical composition.
First of all, 321 stainless steel requires a trace amount of titanium (Ti) element (according to ASTM A182-2008 standard, its Ti content should not be less than 5 times the carbon (C) content, but not less than 0.7%, another note, 304 and 321 The carbon (C) content is 0.08%), while 304 does not contain titanium (Ti).
Second, the requirements for nickel (Ni) content are slightly different, 304 is between 8% and 11%, and 321 is between 9% and 12%.
Third, the requirements for chromium (Cr) content are different, 304 is between 18% and 20%, and 321 is between 17% and 19%.
So you can use metal analyzers or chemical analysis methods to characterize and judge the composition of the two materials.
